Paving across Madison County
Madison County is the most populous county in southern Illinois and the eighth most populous in the state, with 84 percent of residents in urban areas at the 2020 census. Granite City is the largest city and Edwardsville is the county seat. The county grew up around heavy industry, steel mills and oil refineries along the river, and it still carries that kind of load on commercial and industrial pavement.
We pave driveways, parking lots, private roads and access drives in hot-mix asphalt over a compacted rock base, sized for what drives on it. A church lot in Edwardsville and a truck-served lot in Granite City are not the same build. Both start with drainage and base. Call (866) 490-7680 for a free estimate and 25% off.
Ground and drainage
The uplands east of the bluffs are blanketed in windblown loess silt, up to about 90 feet thick near the bluff line, and it cuts and gullies when water is allowed to run across it. Below the bluffs, the American Bottom is deep river-laid clay, silt, sand and gravel behind levees, and it stays soft. Drainage plans come first.

Madison County paving questions
Can you pave a lot that takes semi traffic?
Yes. Truck-served lots need a thicker, well-compacted base and a surface sized for the load, with entrances and turning areas built heavier than parking stalls. We plan traffic flow and drainage together so water leaves at planned outlets instead of standing in the drive lanes.
Is an overlay an option for a worn lot?
Sometimes. If the base under the lot is still sound and the surface is worn rather than broken up, an overlay can work. If the cracks run full depth or the base is failing, an overlay just cracks through. We check it during your free estimate.
