About 63 percent of the county is Seaton and Goss soils, well-drained silt formed in loess or loess over weathered limestone, on ground that runs from gently sloping to very steep. Silt holds a slope until water runs across it. We cut the base into firm ground, compact in lifts and shape the crown and shoulders so runoff leaves the pavement.
