Drives here are often short, steep and close to a neighbor's, which puts the work into edges, joints and grade rather than square footage. A steep drive needs a cross slope so runoff leaves the side instead of gaining speed toward the street. Under the hot mix we want compacted rock and firm shoulders, since unsupported edges on a slope break away first.

The lake is a reservoir on Joulters Creek, so the ground around it drains toward water on most lots. Fast runoff scours edges and slow runoff soaks the base, and freeze-thaw punishes both. Utilities run underground throughout the community, which is one more reason to know what is beneath a surface before digging.
Bids are only comparable when they spell out the same things: base depth, compacted thickness, how edges are finished, and where water is meant to go. Ask for those before you pick a number.
