Built for Washington Park's ground
Western St. Clair County lies on the American Bottom floodplain, kept dry by a levee and drainage canal system, with deep river-laid clay, silt, sand and gravel underneath. Ground that flat drains slowly, and freeze-thaw winters lift pavement over a wet base. We remove soft soil, compact rock in layers and build the grade in.
The part of the job you can see is the last two inches. Ask what is underneath, how it will be compacted, and which way the finished surface drains.
Compacted asphaltTypically 2 to 3 in. for a car drive
Stone baseTypically 4 to 8 in., compacted
Drive on itUsually 2 to 3 days, longer in heat
First sealcoatTypically 6 to 12 months after paving
Typical ranges. Your Washington Park estimate is sized to the soil, the traffic and the drainage on your property.
