Ground, water and winter in Wamac
Fulton Branch runs through the south side of the city on its way into the Kaskaskia watershed, and the ground around it is low and slow to drain. Clay-heavy soils common across the region hold water, and freeze-thaw winters lift anything built over a wet base. We dig out soft soil, compact rock in lifts and grade for runoff.
The part of the job you can see is the last two inches. Ask what is underneath, how it will be compacted, and which way the finished surface drains.
Compacted asphaltTypically 2 to 3 in. for a car drive
Stone baseTypically 4 to 8 in., compacted
Drive on itUsually 2 to 3 days, longer in heat
First sealcoatTypically 6 to 12 months after paving
Typical ranges. Your Wamac estimate is sized to the soil, the traffic and the drainage on your property.
