Asphalt work for Sorento properties

August H. Scharf and his father William platted this village in 1882 and named it after Sorrento, Florida. It passed 500 residents before the end of the next year on the strength of a coal mine that ran from 1883 until 1914. Driveways and parking lots are our main work here now, along with farm lanes and shop pads.

Shoal Creek Township is farm country, and the 1895 Ripson Bridge over Shoal Creek, the last pony truss in Bond County, still sits on private ground nearby. Out here a drive has to handle a pickup, a delivery truck and equipment. We compact a rock base and place hot-mix asphalt, typically 2 to 3 inches compacted. Driveway paving in Sorento

A village drive here is short and close to the street. A country drive runs long, often with a turnaround and a pad near the shed. Both start with grading so water sheds, then a compacted aggregate base and hot mix at typically 2 to 3 inches compacted for cars and pickups. Where equipment crosses, the base goes deeper and the turn gets widened.

Parking lot paving in Sorento

Church parking, a shop pad, small business lots and farm yards cover most of the lot work around the village. We size the base for the heaviest vehicle that parks on it, pitch the surface toward a planned low point, and place asphalt in lifts. A worn lot with a sound base can often be patched and overlaid.

Road construction & private roads

Farm lanes, field access roads and shared private drives carry loaded equipment through spring and harvest. We grade and crown them, compact a rock base deep enough for those axles, then surface in asphalt or chip seal depending on the traffic. Entrances off the paved road get extra base for turning weight.

General asphalt paving & repair

A lot of rural pavement near Sorento fails at the edges, where water gets under the asphalt and tires break the shoulder down. Overlays, edge rebuilds and better drainage are often the fix. When the base is gone, we rebuild it before we pave.

What's under a Sorento driveway

Shoal Creek drains this part of the county, and ground near a creek stays wet longer after a rain. Clay-heavy soil common across the region drains slowly to begin with, and freeze-thaw winters work on whatever stays damp. We cut out soft spots, compact the base in lifts, and grade so water leaves the surface.

A cheap bid usually gets cheap somewhere you cannot see. Ask what depth of stone goes down, how thick the asphalt is after rolling, and who fixes it if water still stands.

Sorento paving questions

Straight answers for Sorento homeowners and property managers. Anything else, call (866) 490-7680.

Do you pave gravel lanes that wash out?

Yes, and the washing is the first thing to fix. If runoff crosses the lane instead of leaving it, we correct the shape and add drainage before building the base. Paving over a lane that washes only moves the problem under the asphalt.

Do you serve Panama, Donnellson and New Douglas?

Yes. Panama, Walshville, New Douglas, Donnellson and Old Ripley are all close by, and we work across Bond County plus greater St. Louis on both sides of the river. Estimates are free and you get 25% off.

What kind of base should go under a Sorento driveway?

Typically a compacted crushed-stone base several inches deep on firm soil, with soft spots dug out first, and that holds for any Sorento driveway. On clay soils that hold water, a thicker base and good slope matter even more. The estimate states the base depth so there are no surprises.

Can you pave where a truck cannot easily turn around?

Usually yes, and it is a common question on Sorento lanes. We plan the approach before the day of paving, and building a turnaround into the job often costs less than you would expect while making the drive far more usable.
