What's under a Panama driveway
The ridge between Shoal Creek to the west and Bearcat Creek to the east gives water somewhere to go, but slopes down toward either creek can wash out a thin base. Slow-draining soils and winter freeze-thaw do the rest. We build compacted base on firm ground and set grades that move water off without cutting under the edges.
The part of the job you can see is the last two inches. Ask what is underneath, how it will be compacted, and which way the finished surface drains.
Compacted asphaltTypically 2 to 3 in. for a car drive
Stone baseTypically 4 to 8 in., compacted
Drive on itUsually 2 to 3 days, longer in heat
First sealcoatTypically 6 to 12 months after paving
Typical ranges. Your Panama estimate is sized to the soil, the traffic and the drainage on your property.
