Blacktop that holds up in Foley

A mile and a half from the Mississippi River, this small Lincoln County city sits right on Highway 79 with farm ground in every direction. Driveways and parking lots are the core of what we do out here, along with the lanes and yards that come with a working place. Water is the deciding factor on all of them.

The city was established in 1879 and incorporated in May 1900, and plenty of the paving around it has been patched more than once since. We would rather fix the cause. Soft ground comes out, rock base gets compacted in layers, grade is set to shed water, then hot mix goes down and gets rolled tight. Estimates are free, and you get 25% off.

Driveway paving in Foley

A drive out here may run a few hundred feet in from Highway 79 or a county road, and it usually carries a pickup, a trailer and a delivery truck. We build the base for the heaviest of those, remove what will not compact, and place hot mix, typically 2 to 3 inches compacted for cars and pickups, with more depth at the entrance and the turnaround.

Parking lot paving in Foley

Church lots, a small business lot or the pad behind a shop building all take at least one loaded truck a week. That sets the base. We put the entrance where a trailer can swing in off the highway, slope the lot so water leaves instead of standing, and keep the edges supported against the gravel shoulder.

Road construction & private roads

Farm lanes, field roads and drives shared by a few families are steady work along the river bottoms. A crowned surface over compacted rock, with water carried to a ditch, beats a flat lane every time. Chip seal suits a long, lightly used lane. Hot mix suits one running loaded trucks.

General asphalt paving & repair

Out around Foley, general asphalt work often means shop pads, machine-shed aprons, turnarounds for trucks and trailers, and the stretch of lane where gravel keeps washing out. We build those with drainage and heavy tires in mind.

Why the base matters in Foley

Bottomland this close to the river stays wet, and Lincoln County uplands are loess and glacial till that the soil survey flags for low strength, frost action and shrink-swell, with a crushed rock base and water shed to ditches recommended. We follow that: drainage first, then base built to carry what rolls over it.

When you compare bids, ask each contractor for three numbers in writing: the compacted asphalt thickness, the base depth, and what happens to the water. Those three decide how long the surface lasts.

Compacted asphaltTypically 2 to 3 in. for a car drive
Stone baseTypically 4 to 8 in., compacted
Drive on itUsually 2 to 3 days, longer in heat
First sealcoatTypically 6 to 12 months after paving

Typical ranges. Your Foley estimate is sized to the soil, the traffic and the drainage on your property.

Foley paving questions

Straight answers for Foley homeowners and property managers. Anything else, call (866) 490-7680.

Does bottomland ground hold asphalt?

It can, with the right build. Wet, soft subgrade needs more material removed and a thicker compacted rock base, plus a surface graded to shed water fast. We check the subgrade and how the site drains during the free estimate, then size the base for it.

Do you cover Winfield and Old Monroe too?

Yes. We work Foley and the towns along Highway 79 and the Lincoln County roads around them, including Winfield, Old Monroe, Elsberry and Moscow Mills, plus greater St. Louis. Estimates are free and you get 25% off on the work.

Should I sealcoat my new driveway right away?

No. Fresh asphalt in Foley needs time to cure before it is sealed, typically several months and often up to a year. Sealing too early can trap oils in the pavement. After that, sealing every few years helps it resist water, sun and salt.

Is gravel over the mud enough to build on?

Not usually. If the subgrade under a Foley lane is soft, stone alone just sinks into it. The fix is digging out the soft spots and rebuilding in compacted layers so the base has something to sit on.
