Why the base matters in Flint Hill
McCoy Creek takes the drainage off the north side, and the county soil survey notes upland soils here with clayey subsoil that shrinks and swells, plus some that lack strength for traffic without crushed rock added to the base. Freeze-thaw winters do the rest. We grade for runoff and compact the base in layers.
Bids are only comparable when they spell out the same things: base depth, compacted thickness, how edges are finished, and where water is meant to go. Ask for those before you pick a number.
