The Washington Bridge opened in December 2018, wider than the 1934 span it replaced and with shoulders on it. Highway 47 crosses the Missouri River there and meets Highway 100 in town. A drive above the river can fall toward the street or back toward the house, and the second one causes trouble. We set the grade so water leaves the surface and stays away from the garage and the foundation. Failed material comes out, rock goes in and gets compacted in layers, then the hot mix goes down, typically 2 to 3 inches compacted for home use. Edges get support so they hold their shape.
Driveway pavingDowntown businesses, churches, shops along Highway 100 and the fairgrounds area on Fairground Street each need a lot built for their own traffic. We size the base to the heaviest truck, pave in lifts and grade to planned low points. A lot can be done in sections so customers keep a way in while the work moves across it.
Parking lot pavingSubdivision streets, private roads and access drives around the city carry buses, delivery trucks and construction traffic. Each gets a compacted rock base, a crown to shed water, and asphalt matched to the load. The city funds street resurfacing through its transportation sales tax, and a private street needs the same care to last.

Add freeze-thaw winters, and drainage decides how long pavement lasts. We move water off first, then build base, then pave.
A cheap bid usually gets cheap somewhere you cannot see. Ask what depth of stone goes down, how thick the asphalt is after rolling, and who fixes it if water still stands.
