Ground, water and winter in Greenfield
Deep farm soils hold water, and water in the base is what freeze-thaw cycles turn into cracks and heaves. We build the grade so runoff has a path off the surface before winter, compact the rock in layers instead of one deep lift, and keep edges supported so they do not break away.
Bids are only comparable when they spell out the same things: base depth, compacted thickness, how edges are finished, and where water is meant to go. Ask for those before you pick a number.
Compacted asphaltTypically 2 to 3 in. for a car drive

Typical ranges. Your Greenfield estimate is sized to the soil, the traffic and the drainage on your property.
